The Health Improvement Program (HIP) is located
within the Stanford
Prevention Research Center (SPRC), which is in the department of medicine
within the Stanford School of Medicine. SPRC is world-renowned for its problem-focused
research programs that evaluate interventions in the areas of nutrition, smoking
cessation, obesity, physical activity, and more. As part of SPRC, HIP helps recruit
participants for ongoing SPRC and School of Medicine research projects.
In addition, on occasion, members of the HIP staff contribute to the research design and implementation of research studies overseen by other SPRC faculty.
In addition, HIP regularly surveys the Stanford population to determine: (a) the health risks and behaviors of the Stanford population as a whole, as well as (b) what types of health education and fitness classes employees want. With these data, HIP can develop programs specifically suited to meet Stanford employees wants and needs.
